Broadway Subway Project

April 1 - Fencing installation begins. More information is available here.

April 6 - Tree removal to allow for construction.

April 13 - Geophysical survey work is taking place. Read the update.

February 16 - Demolition work begins on 525 E 1st Avenue (the former site of Monte Clark Gallery and Equinox Gallery). This demolition is expected to continue through March 12. Traffic and campus access should not be impacted, but the north sidewalk on E 1st Avenue and Thornton is closed.

February 1 - Geotechnical investigation work begins at all sites. You may notice work happening near ECU campus, between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays and Saturdays. This should not affect your commute or access to campus.

January 18-22 - The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is installing fencing around a portion of ECU campus, closing public access to the private roadway connecting Thornton Street and E. 1st Avenue. The fence installation is in preparation for the construction of the Broadway Subway Project.

The North Parking Lot can still be accessed via Carolina St (on the east side of ECU). This work is expected to have minimal impact on traffic or campus access. For more information on construction, visit the Broadway Subway website.

In September 2020, Translink unveiled the final station names for the Broadway Subway Project. The future station located next to ECU's campus on Great Northern Way will feature the name of internationally acclaimed painter Emily Carr, one of the most central figures in Canadian art.

ECU is at the heart of an emerging creative hub in Vancouver and this SkyTrain station will bring a sustainable transportation option to the university's doorstep, leading to expanded accessibility and increased affordability for students, staff and faculty.
